Layback Tavi 40"Kicktail Longboard Complete - Key Questions Answered
What is this 40" kicktail board best used for?
It is best for cruising, campus commuting, boardwalk rides, and carving on paths where you want both smooth rolling and easier direction changes. The 40" length keeps it steady while the kicktail helps in tighter street situations.
Is this a good choice for a first longboard?
Yes, it suits many beginners because the longer platform feels more planted than a short cruiser, but it is still easier to steer than a typical tail-less shape. That combination can make early balance practice and line corrections feel less awkward.
How does it feel compared with a pintail or shorter cruiser?
It feels more stable and roomy than a small cruiser, with more leverage and control than a standard pintail when you need quick turns. You get a calmer ride for distance without feeling locked into wide arcs.
Would this work for someone who needs to navigate sidewalks, corners, and curb-heavy routes?
Yes, that is where the kicktail shape really helps. It gives you more control for tighter steering, quicker corrections, and getting around everyday street obstacles than longer boards without a tail.
What should I expect when riding a 40" board day to day?
Expect a smoother, more confidence-inspiring platform underfoot than a compact board, especially on longer pushes and relaxed cruising. The tradeoff is a bigger footprint, but many riders prefer that added stability for everyday use.

Skater since 1974, pool pipe and skatepark, I've ridden it all but these Carver C7 trucks were a revelation. Best for slow speed styling and generally hanging some art on mellow terrain.
Definitely a kick and worth trying.

I've never had a board I've loved this much. Made with coconut fibers and Hawaiian print cloth. I'm in love. Abec 7s are smoothe, grips great. Overall 10/10

Well built and super fun to skate on. Wheels work well on imperfect pavement and sidewalk cracks. Bearings are legit.

Kiddo got this board for Christmas, for us to ride on Route 66. Board is good quality. No name trucks, but they function well for her. She likes the Punked Speed Series wheels. We did put reds super bearings in it. The factory bearings do not roll near as well. For the price, for a complete, it is well worth it. This is our second Punked Longboard, and both have served their purpose. I would buy from this company, and Vendor again, without question.

Trippy assym setup with Rogue ZM1's and assorted wheels really rips for downhill! I also hope to run cones with it soon.
